Helvetia was established in 1880 by Louis Brands.

The incorporation of new lever movements in his watches in 1885, meant he produced timepieces that were accurate to within an astounding 30 seconds per day.

In 1892 he produced the minute repeating wrist-watch. This was way ahead of its time bearing in mind that wrist watches only gained popularity during World War 1.
